TAL were involved in this project to propose a piling system for the engineers approval. the works were for an extension to a block of semi-detached houses.
The system that was used here was a 150mm open bored pile.

Works consisted of drilling a grid of boreholes into a steeply sloped rock embankment and the installation of 38 No. “Ischebeck” ground anchors up to 5.5m in length. Ageogrid netting was placed over the face of the embankment and held in position with the ground anchors. The geo-grid netting was ‘seeded’ to encourage plant growth. This site had limited access and a steep terrain and a bespoke scaffolding arrangement had to be erected to access all areas of the slope. Within 2 meters of the slope there was the rear wall of a private dwelling that was in continuous occupation and had to be protected at all times.

TAL were engaged as a specialist sub-contractor (Main Contractor – BAM Contractors) to carry out strengthening of soils (under a public roadway) behind the stone retaining walls flanking the Blackwater River located adjacent to Mallow Bridge. Poor pointing of the stonework was allowing water ingress through the wall to create voids and had caused weakening / erosion of the soil structure over a long period of time. Remedial works involved drilling / removing sections of the stone wall at strategic locations & injecting grout to depths of approximately 2 meters. Achieving the optimum pressure at which the grout was injected was key to the success of these works as it had to be sufficient to ensure all voids were being filled. Work was carried out over two phases to facilitate the main contract programme. Road closure licenses were attained and all adjacent services had to be carefully traced, identified and monitored during the grouting process. On completion the walls were repaired and fully repointed by the Main Contractor. Details methods statements and site specific risk assessments for the works were prepared and submitted to OPW representatives for approval prior to commencing any work.

The name TAL has become synonymous with Gabion / Terramesh retaining structures. Most recently Bennett Construction engaged our services at their high profile Project in Hollyhill, Cork. The system selected was Maccaferri’s Terramesh.
Maccaferri Terramesh® System is a versatile modular system used for soil reinforcement applications such as mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) walls; reinforced slope systems (RSS) and soil reinforcement. It is used for commercial, industrial, road works, erosion control and bank stabilization.
Green Terremesh Retaining Wall Systems
Terramesh® structures rely upon the double twist steel wire mesh placed horizontally within the slope with back-fill compacted upon it. The gabion type facing element of the Terramesh System is fully integrated with the double twist mesh reinforcement and is dependent upon the final use of the structure. This double twist mesh reinforcement takes advantage of the friction acting along the surface of the wire and, more importantly, the mechanical interlocking properties of the back-fill.
As opposed to the traditional stone filled basket format this system gives an aesthetically pleasing landscaped finish to the area. This project was up to 30M long and 6M in height. The photos show the wall under construction and the finished project.

TAL Supports BAM Contractors Charity Cycle in Aid of Rett Syndrome Ireland
TAL is delighted to announce our support and donation to the BAM Contractors Charity Cycle in Aid of Rett Syndrome Ireland. The cycle takes place across two days, Thursday and Friday, June 27th and 28th 2013.
It will cover 247 kilometres from BAM Contractors Little Island Office in Cork and Head Office in Kill, Co. Kildare. Over 100 participants will be attempting distances ranging from 50 kilometres upwards with 40 participants attempting the full 247 kilometres. A ‘Fun-Run’ and ‘Mini-Cycle’ from Nass to Kill will also take place to close the fundraising efforts on the Friday afternoon.
Rett Syndrome is a rare neurological disorder which predominantly affects girls, with an approximate incidence of 1 in every 12,000 female births.
